Time and energy should not be wasted on unnecessary things, especially if it is distracting us from perfecting our future. Many of us are unaware of how many countless hours are wasted doing pointless activities.
Modern day distractions
Today’s generation are statistically shown to be the laziest generation compared to previous generations. Obesity rates has gone up compared to previous generation. The main culprits are the modern-day inventions.
There are many technologies out there that we use daily, a few to mention are TV, Mobiles, Laptops, Pads, Computers and Gaming Systems.
Two of the main distractions in our lives today
On average, two devices which enormous amount of time is wasted on are:
TV – Many people spend many hours watching pointless things on TV, there are more negatives to this than positives. Since TV came into exitance, people replaced good habits with bad habits, eating with family members around a table and communicating with each other became non-existent, more people are minding their own business eating in front of the television, this is the case for many families. Most importantly, many people are over weight in today’s age because they binge eat in front of the TV, it’s far too common nowadays. We should not let our guards down when it comes to using technologies, no ones is saying to not use them, however use them at a moderate level and be mindful of your surroundings were you are not compromising the more important things in life just to use a technology.
Smart Devices –Another culprit is our smart phones, now days kids the age of 10+ have smart phones, as time goes on and as technologies advances more younger people are getting their hands-on smart phones. On average 4-12 hours a day is wasted on using these smart devices. Even though there are countless benefits in these smart devices, there are even more negatives. These devices are damaging us in many ways, we are not aware of the mental and physical effects it is causing us.
Using a smart phone means using social media apps, on average we spend more time on these social media platforms than any other apps on our phones.
Social Media – People spend hours on social media apps, is it worth the time spent? Platforms such as Instagram and Facebook now have features where you can see how much time is is spent using the platform. The main purpose in introducing this feature was because many people were spending countless hours on the platform not knowing how long they been using it for. These social media companies have become aware of the effects their platforms were having on people. Scrolling through social media platforms might be interesting and fun, however we are not aware that it’s an addiction as we spend many hours on it. It is actually distracting us from living our lives to full potentials.
Negative factors of all this
- Why are more people wearing glasses to see clearer compared to the past? The main reason is because more people are spending more time in front of a screen producing electricity, it can harm the eyes, destroying vision over time.
- Our focus is driven away from doing the more important thing in our daily lives.
- We are wasting unnecessary amount of money purchasing things through these technologies as it has become so easy to do so.
- Upgrading and purchasing new technologies, and ultimately wasting money.
How would life be without these distractions?
Without these technologies, like the people who lived many years ago before these technologies were invented, we would be healthier and more aware of our surroundings, these technologies would not be a distraction to our lives.
We should aim to either minimize our usage of these platforms, and try cutting down on the amount of time spent using these platforms.
If you are at a point in life where you want to achieve more and do better for your future, you must firstly understand and eliminate all distractions like these, these distractions are what is causing you from moving forward in life and achieving greatness.
