Money is a very valuable thing in our lives, but do you know what is more valuable than money? It is our time. You can earn money whenever you want but you will never get back your time. Imagine your childhood days. Do you think you can get your childhood back? No, it is not possible. Some people value money so much that they forget about time and start neglecting it. Time is more important than money, and so it is not wise to waste it. When you consider that we all have limited time on this planet, it really puts things into perspective.
Growing up, we were all told that once we get out of college we need to start working on the daily 9 to 5 routine for the next 40 years of our lives and then hopefully, save enough money so that we can retire comfortably. But, in doing so, we forget to take care of our families or give our children enough time while they grow up. When you spend a major part of your day in the office, how much time do you have left to spend with your wife or children? Very little indeed. And once your children grow up, you will never get back their childhood or go back to that time. Time is a more valuable commodity than money, and we should all start treating time a little better.
As there are only 24 hours in a day, when you decide to trade time for money, your income will be limited. Say you make $20 or $30 an hour and you work for 10 to 12 hours every day. Your income will be limited by the amount of hours you work daily or monthly. You cannot expect to earn more than what you have worked for. And if you expect to earn more, it will take years, maybe decades before you get a promotion in your workplace and start earning a satisfactory salary. But while you are running after money, your children will grow old and then one day, they will get busy with their lives and go far away from you. At that point, money won’t seem that much valuable to you. You will be old, and probably you will even lack desire to spend the money that you so patiently earned in your youth.
So, in order to change this perspective, we need to change our beliefs around money. Instead of thinking about money in terms of time, we need to get busy spending time on learning new skills. Once we learn a new skill, it is something that no one can take away from you. Once you learn about things that bring value to people’s lives, you will never grow out of fashion. So, invest your time in acquiring skills and assets and knowledge that will help to grow your expertize in the future.
Once we are experts in a particular field, and have managed to build a considerable level of authority, people will start taking us more seriously. Would you work your entire life for your boss? Of course not, and no one wants to be a slave. But unfortunately many of us do exactly that all for just a little amount of money and financial security. Instead of that, consider becoming an entrepreneur and start making a difference. Your skills and knowledge will never grow old. When you start working for yourself, your time will become an investment in your business. After that, your money will not be associated with your time anymore.
